Jay Fondren is a
Corsicana, Texas native with deep family roots in Navarro and Freestone
Counties. He was born Feb. 7, 1980 at Navarro Regional Hospital to Mr.
and Mrs. David Fondren. Jay is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Pillans
of Winkler, Texas and the late Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Fondren of Corsicana.
He is very close to his two younger sisters, Katie and Jobeth.
While Jay was a little boy, his grandfather W. J. Fondren taught him to salute
and march. This was great fun, for that grandfather was a retired Master Sargent
from the Army Air Force. Jay and his sisters would march around the grandparents
house wearing his army caps, marching and saluting.
Jay's grandma, Dortha Fondren, taught many, many years at CISD. The last part
of her career was spend teaching first grade at Fannin Elementary. From the time
Jay was born, she read to him. She helped foster his love of learning and encouraged
his creativity.
Jay grew up living next door to his great-aunt, Josephine Brown. Jay, Katie,
and Jobeth spent countless hours riding their bikes up and down her driveway
, to the end of the street, and back again. Josephine, affectionately called "Aunt
Teen" worked for Morris Evans, who knew the Wright brothers. Aunt Teen
and Mr. Evans loved to have the children come to the office and visit.
When he not busy in town, Jay has always loved to go to Winkler, visit his
grandparents there and play with the "country cousins." Jay loves
everything about the country: the outdoors; the dogs, cows, pigs, and horses;
climbing trees;
getting dirty, and country cooking. He never gets enough.
Jay has grown up in First Baptist Church, Corsicana. He began attending Sunday
School there when he was three years old. He has been faithful not only in
attending Sunday School, but also Vacation Bible School, RA's, Children's Choir,
and Summer
Music Activities for Kids. Jay accepted Jesus as his personal Savior when he
was eleven years old. As a teenager, Jay has had the privilege of working as
a "rat-packer" with the recreation team for Central Texas Children's
Camp at Latham Springs.
At three years old, Jay's life changed in several ways: he changed from New Hope
Baptist Church in Winkler to First Baptist in Corsicana, he got another little
sister, and he began to play soccer. He played Y-O soccer thru the Corsicana
YMCA, competitive soccer with Arlington, Plano, and North Dallas Classic Soccer
Leagues. He worked with the Olympic Development Program. Jay played on the CHS
soccer team and played two seasons of soccer on the Dallas Baptist University
Patriot soccer team. Jay has played on several indoor soccer teams as well. He
has coached and refereed at FBC indoor soccer leagues at the Family Life Center.
Jay refereed Y-O soccer thru the YMCA. He worked several seasons for the Plano
Soccer Association, running the line as well as calling the middle for competitive
matches.
Jay attended FBC preschool and kindergarten. He also attended Fannin Elementary,
kindergarten thru 4th grade. Then he traveled to Carroll Elementary for 5th,
Drane, Collins, and CHS. Jay played the trumpet for 3 1/2 years. In addition
to soccer, Jay also enjoyed running track and cross country. He competed in the
regional competition for cross country.
Jay enjoyed UIL in the middle schools. He competed in maps, graphs, and charts
in both sixth and seventh grade. He won first place both years. Jay enjoyed foreign
language, taking both Latin and Spanish while at CHS. Jay took AP classes in
English, Math, and History. One of his favorite subjects was computer science.
While at CHS, he was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Students
Against Destructive Decisions, Latin Club, Spanish Club, and the National Honor
Society.
Jay and his sister, Katie attended Dallas Baptist University together for one
semester. He fell in love with Katie's roommate, Anne Hollingsworth. Anne was
born and raised in Cameroon Africa. Her parents are Wycliffe Bible Translators,
working with the Mofu people.
Anne and Jay got married on May 25, 2002, exactly 2 years from the time they
became engaged. They live in Killeen. Jay and Anne are proud parents of Micah
Jay Fondren. He was born June 11, 2004 while Jay was deployed. Jay returned
for R&R when Micah was six weeks old. During those two weeks, Micah could
not take his eyes off of Daddy and Daddy could not take his eyes off of Micah.

Jay joined the army in January 2000. He did his Basic Training as
well as his AIT at Ft. Sill, Ok. He is with the 1st Battalion,
82nd Field Artillery, 1st
Calvary Division, Ft. Hood Deployment. He is attached to Charlie Troop, 10th
Calvary Regiment, Brigade Recognizance Troop, 1st Brigade, 1st Calvary Division,
Combat Team. He served as a fire support specialist on Combat Observation
Lasing Team. He was a COLT chief, COLT squad leader. His additional
duties included

NCO.
Jay was injured the day before Thanksgiving, 2004. His body has changed,
his spirit has not. He is still loving and thoughtful, alert and witty,
brave and
loyal, positive and faithful. Jay is working hard and looking forward
to rehab and a bright future. "For I know the plans that I have for you," saith
the Lord.
